Matthew 13:44-46
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it."
What is it that makes movies like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "National Treasure" so exciting? It's not like we don't already know that the protagonist is going to find what he's looking for in the end, right? It's really the getting their and trying to piece together the clues someone else left behind that's so exciting. We feel like we've accomplished something when we figure out the clues. Could explain why crosswords and Sudoku are so popular as well.
Turns out, I think, that this natural preoccupation with figuring things out was placed in us by our loving God who loves for us to participate in what He's up to in this world. He could, after all, just tell us where to go and what to do.But He doesn't. He tells us "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13). And like the parable Jesus told in Matthew above, about the hidden treasure and the one pearl of great value, there is an element of seeking that is necessary to fully participate with God in what He is doing.
God willing, I'm going to explore more about this idea of "treasure hunting" as it regards our walk with God, and especially as it guides how we do what God wants us to in His name. I have such an amazing joy welling up in me over this subject and resulting in some pretty cool stuff happening in and around me that I want to collect my thoughts on the subject in one place. Perhaps doing so here will get me some needed feedback and inspire others to pursue God in a freedom I have not known before recently.
Let's search for treasure together.
